How to Export and Import Page or Post in WordPress

If you are planning to lunch the new WordPress site or have an existing site, then you have to know about import and export features. It is like a backup and backup restore system where you can backup your selected contents and restores from the backup file. With the help of these features, you can migrate WordPress data one site to another site.

There are many plugins available in the market for import and export WordPress data. In this post, I’m going to describe the features available in WordPress without plugins.

  1. Step 1

    Browse the WordPress dashboard

    Go to Tools

  3. Step 3

    Click on Export

  4. Step 4

    Select the export option
    All content (This will contain all of your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, terms, navigation menus, and custom posts.)
    You can customize the export option of Posts and Pages. Such as categories, authors, start date – end date, and status. Similarly, in media, you can export given a date range.

  5. Step 5

    Click on the Download Export File button.
    When you click the button WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer. This format, which we call WordPress extended RSS or WXR, will contain your post, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.
    Once you’ve saved the downloaded file, you can use the Import function in another WordPress installation to import the content from this site.

    Click on WordPress Run Importer

    Choose the exported WXR file(.xml) file from your computer.
